The extremely long toes and the rich chestnut plumage characterize this bird. The bill and frontal shield are blue. Immatures are duller with a black eyestripe and white eyebrow. The long toes support it over floating vegetation. Often turns over leaves to look for food. One female mates with a number of males during the season, but each male incubates the eggs and raises his own chicks. |
