Very colourful: the lilac breast, contrasting with the blue underparts and greenish nape, is diagnostic. The outer tail feathers are long and slender, but are absent in the suller immature and moulting birds. Perches boldly on telephone poles or trees. Loud calls and the tumbling display flight indicate the breeding season. |
